LACIE AND EMALINE
Lacie and Emaline is a short film following two women who grow up together, and eventually fall in love during the turn of the 20th century. When I came up with the idea for this film, something I had in mind was that as much as I love period pieces, most LGBT stories, especially historical ones, end in tragedy. As a lesbian, I wanted to make a film with LGBT characters that had the same, happy ending that straight characters get.
CHARACTER CONCEPT ART: LACIE
before starting the illustrations and animating, I had to create a different design for my characters at each stage of their lives, and research fashion of the different time periods they lived in, while keeping it obvious it's still them.

CHARACTER CONCEPT ART: EMALINE
Like Lacie, I did the same amount of research in Emaline's design. I wanted to create certain contrasts in their design and color pallates: Emaline's blues and purples, against Lacie's greens and yellows. I purposely put a purple flower in Emaline's hat, because dating as far back as the 600s, violets were a symbol of sapphic love.
